About Kevin Jonas growing up and dealing with his success:
Born on November 5th, 1987 in Teaneck, New Jersey, Paul Kevin Jonas, II, was the first of what would be four sons by 2000 for Paul and Denise Jonas. Going by his middle name, Kevin Jonas, 20, is best known alongside his brothers, Joseph, 18, and Nick, 15, in their band, properly named, "Jonas Brothers." Though not part of the band, Frankie, 7, is the youngest son and no, he is not adopted. Kevin is part Irish, Italian, German and Cherokee Indian. As the oldest brother in the band and oldest son in the family, Kevin is the one that all of the other brothers look up to.
Kevin believes in love at first sight. He says that he is very old-fashioned when it comes to courting a girl and he follows the three-day rule, like his mom taught him (he always asks a girl out at least three days before so that she has time to clear her schedule). He has, on more than one occasion, been considered the most romantic out of himself and his brothers.
Maybe it’s because, with an old girlfriend on their anniversary, he took an empty bottle and drew a map of the world with everywhere his girlfriend wanted to travel to and then he wrote her a love letter and put them both in the bottle (like a message in a bottle) and he gave it to her. Mr. Jonas got in trouble by Mrs. Jonas for not being that romantic. Or perhaps it’s because he’s flown across the country (from his family’s hometown of Wyckoff, New Jersey to Los Angeles, California) in order to surprise his crush. Who, you may be asking? Rumor has it, the lucky girl was Zoe Myers, an actress from his band’s "Year 3000" music video. Her own band "Stained Pink" opened for "Jonas Brothers" a few times in 2006. The two were linked for a few months but, it’s been said that they have since broken up.
Kevin is the lead guitarist for the band (and does the background vocals, as well). It has been known that Kevin self-taught himself how to play the guitar at age twelve while home sick from school for a week - instead of watching the "Price is Right" continuously - and hasn't put the guitar down since.
He is a proud Christian and his father is a Minister, but even with his religious views aside, Kevin wears a purity ring on his left ring finger (as do Joseph and Nick). It symbolizes a respect that he has for himself. It means that he will not have sex until he gets married. It is a very honorable thing that he has decided to do this (and has decided to publicize it, as well).
Kevin has been involved in many wonderful charity efforts. He has traveled several times to Mexico and Indonesia to help build hospitals, schools and churches. He lived among, played, fed and sung to the orphans in those countries while he was there.
The Jonas Brothers band: Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness:
The "Jonas Brothers" have already produced two albums (the first of which was with Columbia Records: "It’s About Time" and the second, self-titled: "Jonas Brothers" was with Hollywood Records) in two years. Kevin helped to produce "Jonas Brothers." The band originally started out as a solo project for the youngest in the band, Nick Jonas, it quickly stemmed into "Jonas Brothers" (they initially called themselves the "Sons of Jonas") and, came to include Kevin on guitar and Joseph both as vocals (sharing them with Nick) and on the keyboard.
Their first record (attached to the Columbia Records© label) took three years to produce and was finally released on August 8th, 2006. Unfortunately for the band, the record only sold 30,000 copies and peaked on the Billboard Top 200 at #91. From lack of record sales, the brothers were dropped by Columbia Records© in January of 2007 (announced on January 18th, 2007). Hollywood Records© (part of the Walt Disney Company©) quickly picked up the band and Kevin, Joseph and Nick set to work on a new record right away.
Their second album was released on August 7th, 2007. It sold 200,000 copies and reached #5 on the Billboard Top 200. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the album has sold 875,000 units in the United States. Kevin, Joseph and Nick had the album recorded fully in 21 days, during which the three brothers were in complete lock-down at the studio in order to stay focused (a choice of theirs, probably due in part to the lag of their first album’s creation and release).
Their third album has been completed and is set to release July 8th, 2008. Most of it was recorded while on the road during the “Best of Both Worlds” tour with Miley Cyrus. The brothers had their own Gibson tour bus which traveled with them and invited fans to come out and be part of this "Band in a Bus" event. The guys finished the album at a studio in Los Angeles. Producer John Fields, who produced the Jonas Brothers' most recent self-titled album, described new songs as "getting a little darker" but "still super pop hits." Kevin agreed, saying, "We're a bit older. We've had some painful moments in the last year. A lot of friends stab you in the back. And girlfriends break up with you, or you break up with a girl -- it's terrible what the road will do to you."
Life on the road:
The "Jonas Brothers" have opened for a number of different artists, including Jesse McCartney and Aly & AJ. In 2005, they participated in the Anti-Drug School Tour. In the summer of 2007, they headlined their own tour which was called, the Marvelous Party Tour. This tour had a prom theme because the guys never had an actual prom themselfs. Girls were definitely dressing to impress, as some even came to the shows wearing prom dresses. At times, speical girls were picked as "Prom Queen" and would sit on a stool, while the brothers serenaded her with their song "Hello Beautiful."
In November of 2007, the brothers scored a huge deal and headed back on the road with Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana to open for her Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour. Tickets for this tour went fast and sold out in a matter of minutes. Scalpers got a hold of seats and were selling them for thousands of dollars. It was this reason that the brothers held Verizon In-store apperances, which included acoustic performances as well as meet & greets, for the fans who couldn't get tickets to the JB/HM tour, to come out and still be able to see them...for free.
The Jonas Brothers wrapped up their time on tour with Miley Cyrus, January 9th, 2008 in Albany, NY. Fear not everyone, the guys are now back on the road, headlining their very own tour! Live Nation has inked a two-year, multi-million dollar worldwide touring deal with the Jonas Brothers. The deal, billed as the first of its kind for an up-and-coming act, is expected to result in more than 140 theatre and arena dates during the span of the agreement. As Kevin said "Welcome to Jonas nation."
The "Look Me in the Eyes" tour kicked off January 31st in Tucson, AZ; Opening acts include Rooney, Menudo and Valora. For the first and second leg of tour dates, a speical promotion was held where you could only get the first twenty rows at the box office of each venue they were set to perform at. This was to give the true fans a chance at getting the closer seats for a reasonable price rather than giving thousands of dollars to scaplers. The brothers even made a couple surprise apperances, showing up on the roof of the Gibson Ampitheatre (Los Angeles, CA) and the Nokia Theatre (Dallas, TX) box offices, playing a couple songs for the fans who came out to purchase tickets. For some reason, this promotion was dropped for the east coast dates so now there is no need to go to the box offices. Shows have been selling out in under 2 minutes - so be ready when you go to purchase tickets.
Ready for their close up:
The guys are currently conquering television and the silver-screen with a television show ("J.O.N.A.S.!") and a made-for-TV movie ("Camp Rock!"), both coming out in Summer/Fall 2008, plus a reality show. The Brothers also got the chance to take their act to the big screen! They appeared in the "Best of Both Worlds 3D" movie, performing three songs (We Got the Party, When You Look Me In The Eyes, and Year 3000) inbetween the Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus acts. The movie hit number one, bringing in over $29 million in sales, which is particulary notable considering it was only played in 600 theaters. Due to the success of the film, Disney extended the one week engagement.
2008 is already looking out to be an even more amazing year for the band
